Girls on the Run (GotR) enhances girls in the 3rd-8th grades’ social, psychological, and physical competencies. It combines training for a 5k running event with healthy living education and instills self-esteem and life skills.

GotR Lancaster was started in 2009 as an offshoot of the main GotR of Charlotte founded by Molly Barker. Collectively, all of the GotR councils in the US and Canada have served over 1 million girls.

Getting to know Girls on the Run Lancaster

Stacie Doan, a volunteer coache for GotR Lancaster, is the winner of our #one2onegives contest for October. So, to learn more about the organization, we meet up with Carrie Johnson (Executive Director) to clue us in.

The program is facilitated in elementary and middle schools, corporations, and community centers around Lancaster County. For 10 weeks, each team meets twice a week. Specially trained coaches teach lessons about making healthy decisions and contributing to the community. Running is woven into the program to inspire fitness and build healthy habits. At the end of the program, the girls participate in a celebratory, non-competitive 5k run event.

Our donation is used to help cover fees for participating girls who come from all over Lancaster. Financial assistance is available to participating girls and donating helps to fund this.
