Building Access Database (R&R Episode 30)

In episode 22 of R&R we discussed what a database is and why you would want to use one. In this episode we walk you through creating a database from scratch using Microsoft Access. We show how to import data from a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. How to set up primary keys. And how to create a relationship between 2 tables in your database. So without further ado, lets talk about Building Access Database:

What is a Database?

A Database is an organized way to store data (usually in a table). Inside tables you’re going to have fields that contain records relative to the table. The benefits of using a database in place of a spreadsheet are:

  • Easier to store large amounts of data.
  • Multiple ways to input data including forms.
  • Easy to run reports from a database.
  • Ability to set up relationships between tables.
