Wouldn’t it be nice if the content from your favorite website came right to you? Most people have to visit websites just to see if they’ve posted something new. But with RSS feeds, you can have headlines and article summaries sent right to you. It’s an easy and convenient way to get the content YOU want sent to you as soon as it is posted.

What are RSS Feeds?

RSS stands for “Rich Site Summary” or “Really Simple Syndication.” Whichever definition you prefer, they are a means of having content sent to YOU from websites. Instead of you having to visit the sites over and over to see if they’ve been updated.

How do they work?

    1. First, find a “Feed Reader” you like. This could be a web-based reader like Feedly. A browser extension like the one Google offers for Chrome users. Or just set up RSS feeds in Microsoft Outlook.
    2. Next, visit the websites you like and see if they offer an RSS feed to subscribe to. This is usually indicated by the RSS icon () or you can try to see if they are using a common RSS feed URL.
    3. Copy that RSS address and add it to a New Subscription inside your Feed Reader. Then just wait for the content to come to you!
